Liam and I began our session with a calendar activity – identifying the month, day of the week, date, time, weather, and his feelings. Liam then completed a warm-up activity focusing on math skills. Liam completed Lesson 4.2 Use Multiplication to Divide 2,3,4, and 5 - completing guided practice, independent practice, and problem-solving problems.

Warm-up with light weights and stretching.
Work with the resistance bands on legs and upper body.
Practice karate techniques using the bands to provide some resistance.

Work on roundhouse kick and front kick. Finish with a game of TableTennis.

Liam imaged, read, spelled, and manipulated sounds in complex syllables with a continued focus on past tense forms. He read his fluency list with 90% accuracy and spelled at 60%. He read two sentences containing pattern words and a clue to Poe’s identity, and he wrote a response that demonstrated a robust synthesis of information.

Liam learned about idioms and used examples from our last story to reinforce the meaning of an idiom. He wrote all of his new vocabulary words and their meanings into his interactive notebook. He used his glossary skills to look up all the words and their meanings. He read his new story about "The Earth and Its Neighbors." We talked about Galileo, astronauts, satellites, and telescopes. We discussed how these people and instruments advanced our study of the solar system. He learned how to summarize what he had read.

Liam completed Topic 3 vocabulary review, reviewing vocabulary such as division, multiplication, equation, and factor. Liam wrote down Topic 4 vocabulary in his journal - dividend, divisor, quotient, and fact family. Liam completed Lesson 4.1 Relate Multiplication and Division - using fact families to see how multiplication and division are related - completing guided practice, independent practice, and problem-solving problems.

Liam read a reading comprehension article about sea turtles. He wrote the new vocabulary words from the article into his science notebook along with the definitions. He answered written comprehension questions pertaining to the article. He watched a video on how to draw a turtle, and drew a beautiful sea turtle.

We began a study of exclamation and question sentences. He wrote the definitions for both words into his notebook along with examples. He completed several activities demonstrating his ability to decern which sentences were question and which were exclamation sentences.

Lastly, Liam completed Topic 2 Assessment: Multiplication Facts-Use Patterns and Topic 3 Assessment: Apply Properties-Multiplication Facts for 3,4,6,7,8. Liam scored a 100% on Topic 2 Assessment. Liam had difficulty with Topic 3 Assessment. We will continue practicing with properties.

Liam completed a reading comprehension article titled, "A Great American Teacher." Before reading he reviewed his vocabulary words and their meanings. We discussed why this teacher was so important to her students. He wrote in his interactive notebook the main idea of this story. He completed activities on subjects, predicates, and run-on sentences.
