Jase practiced breaking words into syllables before reading them. He identified Open, Closed, C-le, and C-e syllable types. Following that, we continued reading ‘Trapped in a Video Game’ with our focus being self-monitoring and self-correcting.
Jase and I began our session with reviewing homework. Jase received a 4/4 on practicing expanded form. Jase then completed a warm-up activity - reviewing fourth-grade skills. Jase had difficulty with multiplication, division, perimeter, and conversions. Jase practiced his 8's multiplication facts - receiving a 12/20. We will do additional drill practice. Lastly, Jase completed an activity on comparing decimals - writing <, >, or = to compare the decimals. For homework, Jase will complete additional practice on comparing decimals - completing 8 problems.

Jase finished his self-portrait. We then worked on some drawing technique exercises that he will be working on for the rest of the year. He worked on gradient drawing with graphite, as well as practice with the ruler.
Jase recounted the events from our last reading before continuing with ‘Trapped in a Video Game.’ After we reviewed the three self-monitoring questions, he completed the next three chapters. Jase was able to confirm a prediction from last session, but his predictions today were not confirmed.
Jase learned about helping verbs. He read a list of helping verbs and we practiced writing sentences using them. He complete three exercises using helping verbs.

Jase received a 20/20 on 6's and a 17/20 on 7's. Jase completed an activity - writing decimals in expanded form. Lastly, we did some additional whiteboard practice - writing decimals in expanded form. For homework, Jase will write decimals in expanded form.

Jase learned about the following silent consonant pairs: kn, wr, sc and mb. He read sentences, circled words that contained the pairs, and slashed out the silent letters. He read clues and unscrambled the answers that contained the silent consonant pairs. He learned about staying on topic in writing. He read a paragraph, underlined the topic sentence, crossed out the sentence that doesn't stay on topic, and wrote four supporting details from the paragraph.
Jase read chapters 14 and 15 of ‘Trapped in a Video Game’ with a focus on self-monitoring and self-correcting. Our comprehension conversation centered on making inferences and following the plot sequence. He made predictions naturally as he read.
