Lesson 2: The Geosphere - We learned the physical properties used to identify a mineral. The way the surface of a mineral reflects light is called luster. If you scratch a mineral across a tile, it will leave powder, the color of which is called streak. Minerals are ranked by their relative hardness on Mohs scale. The tendency of minerals to break along smooth faces is called cleavage. The tendency of minerals to break along irregular surfaces is called fracture.
Lesson 2: The Geosphere - We learned about the materials in the geosphere. Minerals are the basic building blocks for soil, rocks, and metals in the geosphere. A mineral is a naturally occurring, inorganic solid that has a crystalline structure and a definite chemical composition. Next we learned that each mineral has unique physical properties, some of which can be used to identify a mineral.
Nicky and I spent the first portion of our class simply having a discussion about many of the topics we've encountered since jumping to Ch 23/24. We then finished Section 2 of Chapter 24 with a review video and activity.

Nicky has lost much of his focus and effort over the past week, we spoke about this with one another towards the end of our session.
Nicky and I continued through Chapter 24. We reviewed Nicky's homework from Section 1 before completely reading through Section 2 together. We then watched multiple videos surrounding international trade and relations.
Project - currency rates. Finding the currency exchange rates for different countries as compared to the US dollar. Chart and calculate using decimals and fractions. Nicky and I enjoyed this project. We looked up the currencies of several countries and what the exchange rate was as compared to the dollar. We charted the amounts and then calculated the cost of food and drinks. The first thing he researched was the cost of margaritas in Mexico, we definitely had a good laugh about this. This project helped Nicky with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using decimals.
Adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials - Nicky enjoys this concept but makes silly mistakes especially with the signs. He tries to work too fast, wants to get done. If he slows down and writes out the steps he would do much better.
