Lesson Outline
In grammar, I introduced direct objects of action verbs. Bobby found the main action verbs of sentences and determined the direct objects. Bobby read "High-IQ Basketball Player has Good Feel for the Game." We discussed the article and Bobby determined the main idea. He then completed the comprehension questions. We read a chapter in "Holes" and discussed spelling words.

Bobby should complete a selection on Readtheory.org and practice spelling words for homework.

Front Elevation
Lesson Outline
Today Bobby learns how to project off his floor plans to develop his front elevation. He projects all of his windows and doors down from the floor plans to illustrate what his home would look like standing on the front lawn. This also shows the roof and double entrance front doors. We were both very impressed with this new view. Great session.

ecosystems
Lesson Outline
This afternoon we continued our exploration of ecosystems and how the introduction of an invasive species can have a profound impact on both the living and non living elements within the ecosystem. We observed a case study in Ghana that highlighted how the massive die off of phytoplankton offshore can create massive eruptions of hydrogen sulfide gas and methane causing a chain reaction through the food web. A very interesting cause and effect relationship showing how phytoplankton death results in increased poaching and hunting of game creating an unbalance in the ecosystem. Notetaking and discussion followed.

Cell Characteristics
Lesson Outline
We learned the differences between the eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell. We learned that the cell is the smallest structural unit of all living things. Then we learned that a prokaryote cell is a single-celled organism that does not have a nucleus or membrane-bound organelles and the DNA is located in the cytoplasm. All bacteria and archaea are prokaryotic cells. Eukaryotic cells have DNA contained in a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. Animals, plants, protists, and fungi are eukaryotes. Most eukaryotes are multicellular except amoebas and yeast which are unicellular. Next we created a Venn diagram to understand the similarities and differences between the two cells. Then we built a eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell pocket and put the names of different cell organelles in the appropriate cell pocket to help us remember the differences between them. We performed a few other activities to document what we learned.
