Quiz Grade: 8/9

David started the session with a brief review of the information on the rooms of the house, types of dwellings, and other relevant vocabulary.

David took his quiz and did well. He would likely benefit from a little more independent study especially as we walk back the supports that are given at the start of the year.

David then reviewed the verb tener and he used that verb to have a conversation with me about his family. He later worked to complete a paragraph written in the book with different forms of the verb tener.

Quiz, Possessive Adjectives
Lesson Outline
Kaitlin started her class with a quick quiz review. We highlighted the rooms of a home, types of dwellings, and related vocabulary.

She took her quiz and did very well earning an 8 of 9 on it.

We then looked at the possesive adjectives. Kaitlin and I discussed how to say my, your, his, her, and our in Spanish. She seemed to have a firm though not perfect command of this material so we pushed on to reading activity.

For the reading activity, she read a cartoon about two students. She then answered comprehension questions about what she read.

She was able to answer the questions in complete Spanish sentences using details from the reading.

Chapter Review
Lesson Outline
After the long absence caused by the storms, David and I did a quick but comprehensive review of the chapter. We looked at his vocabulary and verb conjugation pages. He then completed the practice quiz that we took last week as a warm up independent exercise. He did an excellent job of translating the questions into true English reflections of their Spanish meaning. He only needed to search in the book a limited number of times for the vocabulary needed to complete the sentence.

Tener Quiz, Vocabulary Quiz
Lesson Outline
David was given a quiz on the tener verb tree. In preparation for the quiz, he was given two minutes to refresh his memory.

He then took the quiz doing a good job. I recommended to David that he study more for future verb quizzes as he narrowly missed getting a 60% on the quiz by using a quiz taking strategy of saying the phrase "tu ..." and different forms of tener aloud to himself. His actual score on the quiz was an 80%.

David then took a practice vocabulary quiz. This was designated as a practice quiz so that he can get used to the quiz format that the book authors use.

If it would have been a real quiz it is likely that he would have done well but not perfectly on the quiz. With it being practice, he was able to use his notes and got a 9 out of 9.

David should continue to study the vocabulary for the upcoming test.

We discussed grading policy in the class.

Lesson Outline
David was given two minutes to study his tener verb tree.

As per our usual, we reviewed the material from last class to start our class. However, David was guided through a different method of review today. He was asked to find independently the pages that we covered in our last class. He was asked to look over them and identify key points from the pages. He was asked to find the end of chapter review for our vocabulary. He also had to find the book's presentation of the tener verb tree.

We briefly discussed how he can use this type of review in this class and others to prepare on his own for future tests.

We then discussed two different living situations with illustrations (an apartment and a house). We used the verbs tener and haber (conjugated as hay) to discuss them.

David took a practice quiz on tener. He did an good job and would have received an 80% if this was the real quiz.

David had a bunch of great questions today during his self-guided review. He asked about the origin of false cognates. He was given less than 5 minutes to look up a false cognate from this chapter. He also asked about the English translation of the conjugations of tener.

These questions helped me to know that he was focused during his review.
