listening comprehension, real vs. fantasy, parts of the cover of a book, categorizing, number recognition
Lesson Outline
Richard listened to two short books; one realistic fiction and one fantasy. We compared and contrasted the two books in terms of what might actually happen and what was fantasy. Richard did well coming up with other examples of fantasy. The title, author and illustrator of the books were identified and the meaning of author and illustrator were reviewed. Richard is excited that he is going to make his own short book. Ideas for the book were discussed. We continue to practice categorizing objects by different attributes and writing the numbers 1-4. Richard enjoyed a game in which he closed his eyes, and randomly made three marks on a 100 chart. He then opened his eyes and was tasked with naming the numbers that had marks. He added the number 30 to the calendar and went over the days of the week. We had a very productive hour.

I was scheduled with Richard from 9:30-10:30 for both math and reading. Recess is at 10:00. I believe recess is important and that a 6 year old boy needs recess. However, Richard needs more time to work on reading and math to be able to complete the kindergarten curriculum.
