Argument and rhetoric writing
Lesson Outline
We approached writing an argument paper by focusing on an actual life incident where Kayla needs to develop a written argument essay to help some personal matters. We brainstormed while introducing major components of ethos, pathos, logos, as well as deductive reasoning. We also discussed counterarguments in preparation of rebuttal to opposition.

Polynomial Division
Lesson Outline
I demonstrated how to perform long division with two polynomials as Kayla took notes. Next, I worked the same problem, but using synthetic division in order to demonstrate the ease of synthetic division when compared with long division. After that, we used a given zero of the function to reduce the polynomial using synthetic division. Finally, we reviewed how to find the remaining zeros of the function by factoring the reduced polynomial and solving for x.

Lesson Comments
Although Kayla did make the effort to do a few problems, and seek help at school, she did not complete her homework assignment. She said that she did not know how to do the exercises and that she did not have her book with her when she went for help at school. I reminded her that we had worked similar examples together, and asked her to refer to her session notes, but she did not have them. I explained that it is important to take good notes, keep them organized, and refer to them as she works on her homework assignments. I also recommended that she make a habit of referring to the examples in the text book, especially if she can not find her session notes.I promised to not reduce her homework grade, if she would complete all of it by our next class meeting.

ACT grammar review
Lesson Outline
Kayla had asked for help in ACT preparation, so I had her take a particular grammar exercise home that targets particular grammar lessons. We reviewed this, which totaled over 68 sentences that varied in grammatical errors. It proved most worthwhile as we discovered some weaknesses that Kayla needed to relearn that will be on that test. She will now be prepared for it.
