Chase did a wonderful job on the test. He read all twelve lists without ever getting five in a row wrong, the criteria for stopping. Up through list 9 (the equivalent of Step 9 of the 12 Wilson steps) he had at least 8 out of 10 correct. An 85% indicates mastery of a step so at 82% for all the steps he is very close to a mastery score. For nonsense words his score is lower but a mastery nonsense words score would be 80%. He had a great attitude throughout the testing. Chase is an articulate and creative boy who was focused, competitive and a joy to work with.

Composition of the letter B and D
Lesson Outline
Chase and I began our session by correcting a paragraph on the dry erase board. The paragraph included grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Then, I introduced Chase to a concept in order to remember writing the letter b and d the correct way. For the letter d I showed him a picture of a dime and a dollar bill. I explained to him when he is writing the letter d remember to go "Around the dime, then up and down the dollar." Then, I showed him a picture of a bat and a baseball to represent the letter b. I explained to him when he is writing the letter b remember to "first, make the bat, then draw the baseball." After, Chase completed two worksheets practicing with the lowercase letters b and d. In addition, Chase practiced writing sentences with both uppercase and lowercase letters b and d on composition paper. Repetition seems to really be helping Chase with his struggle of reversing these letters. Lastly, Chase and I went to the computer lab and practiced multiplication on the abcya.com website.

Today Chase and I began our session by correcting a paragraph on the dry erase board that included grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Then, Chase and I went outside to the playground and played a adjective/verb basketball game. I would recite either a verb or adjective to Chase and he had to tell me what type of word it was. If he got it correct he got two points and got to shoot the basketball. He did a great job with this! In addition, Chase completed an adjective/verb sorter writing the correct word under the correct column. During math, Chase and I completed three pages of math homework he brought from school. We used a measuring tape to measure the dimensions of objects in the classroom, such as a bookshelf shelf, the desk, and a window. Chase had to record the measurements in inches and feet. We completed all three pages of his homework.
