Math – Lesson 12 Session 4: Kelcy learned to show his work in finding factors and divisors with a number line. He applied this method to solving word problems. He was able to show jumps on a number line in specific increments to find a missing factor in a multiplication equation. He was able to find the divisor in a division equation by counting the jumps in the other direction on a number line. Kelsey demonstrated his proficiency at finding the remaining equations in the fact families. Next he completed 15 minutes of iReady.
Science – Kelcy made vocabulary cards for cell and chlorophyll. He learned that chlorophyll is collected in cell organelles called chloroplasts.
Kip and I began our session with Kip completing twenty minutes of iReady. Kip completed five minutes extra because he was absent yesterday. We then listened to a read aloud, "What Does It Mean to Be An American?". Kip then wrote a paragraph on why he is proud to be an American. We then completed a reading, "Night Flying with Friends". While reading, we discussed the character's point of view. Kip then completed a chart, filling out each character's point of view. We will complete the written response tomorrow.
I began with a review of the sound deck with visual and auditory drills. Graphemes included igh, oa, oo, dge, ea, ow, ai, ay, y, tch. Kip missed reading and spelling dge, oa, ai, ea as /e/ oo as /u/ and y as /I/. I will re-teach those graphemes. I introduced ew /oo/ as a new concept. I showed Kip its placement in a word (usually at the end of a word or syllable). He read example words. I dictated words and sentences with ew /oo/. I helped Kip edit his sentences using the CAPS mnemonic (capitalization, appearance, punctuation, spelling.)
Kelcy enjoyed creating his own island. He determined what places and services needed to be on the island in order for people to live there. Kelcy created symbols for the map key and then chose where to put the symbols on his island.
Math – Kelcy continued to practice using a multiplication table to find products and quotients. Then we reviewed dividing by 7. Next we completed the homework to find fact families. Then we completed 15 minutes of iReady.
Kip and I began our session with Kip completing fifteen minutes of iReady. We then observed the calendar for the week, seeing what work needs to be completed. We watched a BrainPop video, introducing point of view. I read aloud a reading, reinforcing the introduction of point of view. Kip then observed a picture and then filled out a chart, focusing on point of view. We then reviewed previously learned vocabulary by completing an activity matching the meaning of the vocabulary word used in a sentence.
Today’s lesson focused on enrichment activities. Kip participated in activities that emphasized spelling, phonics, and wordplay. Kip created words.

Today’s lesson focused on enrichment activities. Kip participated in activities that emphasized spelling, phonetics, and wordplay. Kip created words and interacted with peers and teachers during the exercise. Kip was on task.
The function and location of latitude and longitude lines were reviewed. Kelcy enjoyed an activity where 'alphanumeric coordinates' were used in a zoo setting. He did well determining what exhibits were located at given coordinates and, conversely, the coordinates of different locations at the zoo. Additionally, we watched CNN10, a daily ten minute video about current events written for students. Today's topics included clips from President Biden's speech on foreign policy, the effects of the recent nor'easter and a the new sport of Teqball. The video was used as a springboard for more in depth discussion and explanation of current events.
