Lesson Outline
Kip and I began our session with completing and submitting his social studies project on communities. I suggested that Kip add more detail, thus he added a road to add to his suburban community. Kip then completed fifteen minutes of iReady. I printed out the assignments calendar for the week. Kip then completed a grammar activity, pgs. 144-145 on comparing with adverbs. Kip then completed a vocabulary activity, pg. 93, focusing on synonyms and antonyms on previously learned vocabulary words. We ended our session with a reading introducing Saint Padre Pio. We will continue with the introduction of Saint Padre Pio with a video tomorrow.
Today we used tinker-cad, a 3D modeling program, to begin learning how to design and manipulate objects on a 3D plane. We printed a shark to show the process and learn about the materials.
Math - Kelcy learned to take apart a multiplication word problem involving one step, and use an area model or expanded model to solve so he will eventually master multiple step word problems. Then he completed an iReady assignment to practice for a test on solving one-step word problems. Next he practiced finding multiplication and division equations to solve word problems.
Kip and I began our session with a religion reading, discussing the church praying for those who are suffering. We then completed a video for religion, "The Prodigal Son". We took turns reading, "Anansi Tries to Steal All the Wisdom" and "Anansi and the Lion". Kip completed questions and a short response, comparing and contrasting the two stories. Kip then completed a grammar activity on adverbs, filling in the correct adverb to complete the sentence.

Lesson Comments
We doubled up on Kip's work to complete everything on Thursday that way Kip would not be behind with no school on Friday. I will submit his social studies project on Monday.
Math and Social Studies – Kelcy continued to practice solving one-step word problems using multiplication and division. He continued to practice assigning variables to the unknown factor in an array and solving for them. Then he practiced going between multiplication and division to solve for the variable. He completed today’s mathematics work and homework and the work for Friday since there is no school. Next he worked on his social studies assignment for the week which is a poster on the type of community in which he would like to live. He wrote a paragraph describing a suburban community and why he would choose this type of environment. Then he created a poster with pictures of parks, homes, and soccer fields in a suburb.
I began with a review of the r-controlled vowels (er, ir, ur, ar, or). We played two board games to reinforce the concepts. For reading fluency and comprehension, we read (and finished) the novel Ranger. I appreciate Kip's enthusiasm and curiosity!
Kip and I began our session with discussing Kip's social studies project on suburban, rural, and urban communities. Kip will complete a poster on his chosen community - suburban. For religion, we began a video, "The Prodigal Son". We will complete this video tomorrow. I then read aloud our religion reading discussing church forgiving us in Jesus' name in the Sacrament of Penance. Kip then completed a vocabulary activity, matching the meaning to the given clue. We ended our session with reading two stories, "The Cyclops" and "The Dangerous Way". We then completed questions and a short response focusing on comparing and contrasting the two stories.
Math – Kelcy learned how to solve one-step word problems using multiplication and division. He practiced solving for the number of rows or columns in an array by assigning a variable to the unknown factor or product. He is aware that any letter in the alphabet can be assigned to an unknown value.
Kip and I began the session reviewing the six syllable types: closed, open, silent e, r-controlled, vowel teams, final stable syllable. I reminded Kip that if he knows the syllable types and how to divide (syllabicate) a word, he can decode any word in the world! To reinforce the concept, we played two board games, "Syllable Hop" and "Phonics Dice." To conclude, we read the novel Ranger.
Kip and I began our session with submitting completed work from yesterday. Kip completed fifteen minutes of iReady. We took turns reading two fables, "The Fox and the Goat" and "The Wolf and the Crane". We completed a table filling in the characters, plot, and theme of each story and a short response on comparing and contrasting stories. I read aloud a story, introducing new vocabulary words. Kip then identified and defined words in his workbook. We then took turns reading our religion reading on asking for forgiveness in Jesus' name. We ended our session with a grammar activity on adverbs.
