Show the video which depicts a simple series circuit. View a schematic of a simple series circuit and discuss why it is classified as a series circuit. Show how the total resistance in a simple circuit is determined, and once determined, use Ohm's law to calculate the current and/or voltage. Show why circuits in series are not used to light houses.

Nicole showed me her typed notes for the last months worth of classes, all paragraphed, dated and highlighted. It was very impressive. We spoke how by doing this, the information is learned and retained better.
We practiced the 7 times tables, which Nicole will have a test on Monday. We then moved into completing the proportion work. Nicole completed exercises on p.300 (22-32). One of the problems dealt with exchange rates with the American Dollar and the Euro. Nicole had to write a proportion to solve it. We got into a discussion about exchange rates and which is stronger, the dollar or the Euro.
Analyzing political cartoons is a very important skill for history students to master. In everyday life, we see them in newspapers and magazines. Throughout American history, political cartoons have been a very important method to bring news to the masses - especially when the literacy rate was not as high in the U.S. as it is now. Political cartoons are often on high school history tests and they are always included in a variety of of AP history tests. Today, we viewed and analyzed 16 recent/timely political cartoons from the past six weeks. There is a vast collection of them, so we may spend some time on this skill in future classes.
Denise sent me the summer reading list for North Broward Prep. I offered to help Nicole choose a book and to start it with our remaining 11 days of school. From a list of 45 books, Nicole chose a non-fiction book called Kook by Peter Heller. We researched the author and discovered that he is an award-winning adventure writer. Nicole downloaded the Kindle app on her computer and purchased the book. After she printed out the short answer questions due in August, we co-read the non-fiction book, while simultaneously discovering the features of Kindle. Nicole can highlight and take notes while reading, as well as look words up in the Oxford English Dictionary and unknown information on Wikipedia. The Kindle app is going to be a valuable tool for Nicole next year. I encouraged her to buy the Audible add-on should she choose to listen to the book as well as read it.
Nicole took her quiz on the six times tables. She scored 100%! We were excited!
We then learned about proportions. Proportions are statements of equality between 2 ratios. If we have a proportion, then the fractions will reduce to the same equivalent fractions. In a proportion, the cross products are equal. We used this fact to find missing numerators or denominators in a proportion. We also used this to see if we actually had a proportion, by testing to see if the cross products are equal. Nicole completed p.300(2-20 even)
El Perro - read, translate and start a word bank for part 1.
Lesson Outline
Nicole began reading part 1 of El Perro. I said the words first and Nicole repeated for correct pronunciation. Nicole began translating, identifying new vocabulary and grammar. I assisted as needed. Nicole began a word bank. When Nicole completed part 1, she began exercise A. She will complete exercise A for homework.

Today Nicole and I began to write a "compare and contras"t essay. The prompt was, "The main characters of The Hate U Give and The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise share many similarities and differences. First, I discussed the purpose of a compare and contrast essay. We brainstormed how the characters are similar and different. We began writing the outline to organize the essay. Nicole independently wrote an introductory paragraph.
I began with a phonological awareness exercise, Level K2#3. I reviewed the sound deck with visual, auditory, and blending drills. I am pleased that Nicole is improving with the auditory training (I say a sound, and she writes the possible ways to spell that sound). We discussed yesterday's lesson, eu and ew as spellings for /oo/ and /U/. I dictated words for Nicole to type, and we syllabicated example words to reinforce the concept.
Review of definitions and terms used in electricity... These include voltage, current, and resistance. Discussion of the relationship between all three in an electric circuit. Presentation of Ohm's law in simple equation format and also in a diagram format. Solve a simple ohms law problem to determine current given voltage and resistance. Discuss the meaning of an electric circuit, from images, explain the different symbols used in a schematic diagram of a circuit.

Nicole performed very well. She had no trouble solving the equation to determine the current, had the answer almost before I was finished writing it.
