As Audrey requested assistance in strategizing responses to questions that required identifying textual support for a claim, we today first worked on questions from practice exams that test this skill. I provided instruction first on how to identify the passage's claim or hypothesis and then how to focus on responses that often restate the claim or describe the claim. We then reviewed Module 1 of a practice test that Audrey completed for homework stopping to examine questions where she had difficulty . We began discussing SAT grammar skills which we will in detail examine during our next session on Tuesday.

We made significant progress with these more difficult problems. We identified several areas of strength for Audrey, and an area that needs more practice.
We worked on areas that concerned Audrey based on the SAT practice test that she took last week. First, I provided instruction on the proper use of transition words such as: however, nevertheless, additionally, furthermore " etc. Next, we worked on the strategies for answering questions that require the student to answer questions based on a series of hypothetical notes. I emphasized that while each answer accurately summarizes the notes, the question only seeks information on one aspect of the notes. After completing questions on these areas from a practice test, we worked on graph and data analysis questions . We analyzed all the questions and answers together to assist Audrey in strategizing .
We will start with a walk through the book that we will be using to prepare for the test. We will do practice problems and discuss them as needed.

We completed the overview and began the walk through of topics.
Audrey and I first did an annotating exercise. Audrey said that she sometimes loses focus as she reads and forgets what she has read, so we worked on strategies such as annotating which help you interact with a literary text and remember what you read. She did well with the exercise. We then took turns reading from the novel trying to apply some of the annotating skills.
Audrey and I read two chapters of the novel. Audrey is behind in her reading. She asked to read the summaries of the last five chapters from Book Rags. So we finished the book.Audrey asked some questions as we read. Audrey said that she has trouble remembering what she has read, so we talked about some strategies to help her remember and focus on what she is reading. We discussed annotating and note-taking. We discussed the over-arching theme, the significance of the title and the ending.
Audrey and I read three chapters. We annotated for difficult vocabulary, plot and theme. After each chapter, we discussed inferences throughout, and I had Audrey give a brief summary of what happened. We also discussed possible writing assignments to correspond to the novel.
