Read "The Nativity Story" for young children. Penny pointed to the pictures of the people who were the characters in the story. Created an Advent Christmas tree chain using red and green construction paper. On several strips of paper, Penny dictated things she could do to live as God wants us to live. She wrote the words that were her high frequency words being learned this week.
Practiced writing numbers up to 10 but pointed to the numbers up to 30. Practiced counting by 10's up to 100. Created a hopscotch game using construction paper so that the game can be played anywhere.
high frequency words, numbers, Christmas word wall
Lesson Outline
Recognize high frequency words and the letters in those words(it, on, do, I, go, up).
Practice writing the number and word form of zero and one. Understand 1 more than and one less than the numbers given.
Color the Christmas word wall words (manger, sheep, star, stable). Say the letters of each word. Talk about how each of these words relate to Christmas.
Penny started the session by practicing writing her name. She quickly moved on to a coloring by numbers activity to practice fine motor skills and number recognition. After that, we worked on sight words; go, it, do, on, up, and I. These words were placed on index cards, which were laid on the ground. When I called out a word she had to jump on it. She also made a holiday ornament.
We began with a light dynamic warm-up followed by a light dynamic stretch. The stretch and the warm-up allow the muscles to get loose and flexible as well as get the heart rate up. Penny and I continued to work on the series of exercises and drills we introduced last class. We made changes and progression to help her improve on her overall motor skills.

Penny and I participated in a series of drills that allows her to improve upon her body control and coordination. Change of direction drills, cone drills, and ball drills...
We discussed animal shelters, specifically discussing a beaver's shelter. We listened to a read aloud, "My First Animal Library, Beavers." We observed the pictures of the beaver's dam. We discussed what Penny's shelter is (her home). Penny created a beaver's dam with craft sticks, sticks, and leaves. She enjoyed placing each object on top of each other.
