Review, analyze an discuss homework questions turned in. Analyze why incorrect answers were incorrect. Outline and discuss the 7 reasons for changes in entropy. Show examples of changes from standard molar entropy.
Discuss and compute work done by slowly climbing stairs with an object or quickly climbing the
stairs .Determine mathematically that the work done is equivalent in each case. Introduce the concept of power as a rate which includes work and time. Formulate it as work/time. Define the Watt. Discuss potential energy and describe elastic, chemical, and gravitational potential energy.
Today we will complete our study of integration. We will do examples of inverse trigonometric integrals. We will do random problems from the chapter review section in the text. We will also look ahead at the topic of slope fields.

We accomplished the completion of integration. We briefly looked at the concept of slope fields. We also enjoyed the Thanksgiving meal provided by the Batt School.
We studied how allusion and metaphor function to create meaning by analyzing Sandberg's poem "Fog" and Wordsworth's "The World is too much with Us." In the Wordsworth poem, we discussed how the references to mythological gods serves to contrast modern society's disregard for the spiritual aspects of nature with the reverence for Nature in mythology. In discussing "Fog" Joshua did well noting how the metaphor comparing fog to a cat is also symbolic and conveys how disorientation or depression can silently creep up on a person but just as stealthily evaporate.
We studied how structure conveys meaning by comparing the closed or traditional structure of Frost's "Stopping by a Woods" with Whitman's "I hear America Singing." Joshua did well in recognizing how Whitman's structure creates a flowing unity representing his view of Americans as individuals yet also part of a unified whole. We further noted the use of connotation in Frost's
Stopping by a Woods."
Today we studied how personification and metaphor convey the poet's perspective. We first discussed the extended metaphor used in Frost's "Road not Taken" noting how each stanza employs the metaphor of a road representing how all choices , great and small, reverberate and impact one's life. We then studied Emily Dickenson's use of personification. In class Joshua worked on drafting a thesis and first paragraph describing how personification and mood convey the poet's perspective on death. We worked on revisions to create a defensible literary interpretation.
Review the formula for determination of entropy change, write the formula and discuss. Present a problem which involves determination of the change in entropy when nitrous oxide reacts with oxygen to form nitrogen dioxide. List and discuss each step in the process and then analyze the answer.
