This morning, Atticus and I continued to review how to solve multiplication and division equations using the properties of equality, the rules of positive and negative numbers, reciprocals, and how to isolate variables. He completed the lesson's practice and problem-solving, writing and solving equations to model word problems. He has been encouraged to work downward, show all of the steps, keep each side of the equation neat and separated by the equal sign, and use the properties of equality. For homework, Atticus was assigned the mid-topic checkpoint.
Atticus and I played a game of chess. We moved on to continue working on his mobile website prototype. Atticus added header to each of the artboards, edited the font, and saved his work.
As the novel begins to explore how Omri's caring for his "real " Indian changes Omri's habits and values, we studied how Omri's development also changes his relationship with his best friend, Patrick. We discussed why friendships change or sometimes dissolve in this context .Atticus discussed why Omri reveals the secret of the magic cupboard to his friend,Patrick, but later has misgivings fearing that Patrick will not recognize the responsibility that attends caring for a "real" person. Atticus then prepared a chapter summary based on our class discussion after which I again used his writing to conduct a short grammar lesson, today on capitalization, commas, and run-on sentences(or improper use of commas). I will bring exercises on run-ons to our next session to further refine this skill.
Atticus completed a reading comprehension activity about the River Nile, and then answered written comprehension questions pertinent to the article. We discussed, looked up definitions for new vocabulary words, and then he wrote the definition into his interactive notebook.
Today, we read about what happens to oxygen after it enters the lungs. We learned the key term, alveoli. We added this word and drew an illustration in our science notebook. We analyzed a diagram of alveoli in lungs, and how they perform gas exchange with capillaries. Atticus wrote an argument refuting the claim that blood has no role in breathing. He provided evidence to support his argument.
I introduced Atticus to Adobe XD and its tools. He created a list of some anime genres and series. Atticus searched for images of his first genre, action. I had Atticus create five artboards on Adobe XD, create four buttons on the first artboard, and place an image on the remaining four artboards. I worked with Atticus to connect all of the artboards together, test the functionality and saved his work.
Atticus and I worked together on last night's homework which he struggled with. We reviewed how to solve multiplication and division equations using the properties of equality, the rules of positive and negative numbers, reciprocals, and how to isolate variables. After our review, Atticus understood the material more clearly and completed numerous homework problems independently. Then, we began the next lesson on solving equations with fractions and decimals. We completed the real-world examples together and Atticus was assigned the practice problems for homework.
Atticus wrote down the rest of his vocabulary words and their definitions. He read a reading comprehension article about Egypt and the Nile River and answered comprehension questions about the article. He completed an interactive article about life in Ancient Egypt, highlighting and discussing important facts from the article.
