Today, we read an article about a bionic arm. We discovered that brains control the muscles which control a bionic arm. We discussed how being open to new ideas allows scientists and engineers to create useful technologies for people. Atticus summarized his ideas in a paragraph. He then completed the end-of-lesson review quiz.

Lesson Comments
Atticus applied himself, he was focused and determined.
This morning, Atticus and I discussed the missed questions from the diagnostic assessment allowing me to determine if they were missed from carelessness or insufficient knowledge and we determined that both were factors. Questions were on number operations, algebraic reasoning, fractions, measurement, geometric reasoning, and data and probability. He scored a 77% and continues improving grade-level mathematical skills. For homework, Atticus was assigned an exponent review.
For lesson 3 of our writing exercise , Atticus continued to draft a literary essay arguing that Dickens favored social justice and reform . Atticus does well with the concept and we spent time working on locating and summarizing specific textual examples to support the argument. From there, we addressed commentary or explaining how the example supports the claim. After we completed two paragraphs, I discussed our next book,"The Indian in Cupboard" and distributed biographical information about the author. We discussed how to prepare a summary of the biography using only the most relevant facts and employing connecting words such as :later, after, at the end of her life etc. HW- read handout and write one paragraph summary.
Today, Atticus wanted a special lesson for his birthday. We read about the history of ranchu goldfish, phytoplankton, zooplankton and cnidarians. We discussed facts about each family of organisms, and observed diagrams of individual species.
Atticus and I read about the structure and support systems of plants: roots and stems. We learned about woody and herbaceous plant stems. We Observed a diagram of a tree with a vine growing around it. Atticus recorded his observations that the tree was a woody stem and the vine was a herbaceous stem, and why he thought this. In a Venn diagram, he compared and contrasted plant and animal support and structure systems.
This morning, Atticus continued and completed the first portion of the mathematical screener and diagnostic assessment which is associated with our curriculum and helps recognize individual strengths and weaknesses. Atticus will continue the second and final portion of the diagnostic assessment tomorrow. He finished our lesson on review questions using the order of operations to evaluate expressions.
