Today, we focused on the American inventor and businessman Thomas Edison. Libby learned about his childhood, the challenges he faced, and his ability to persevere and become a great inventor. Then, we learned about a few of his most known inventions such as the phonograph, motion picture camera, electric power generator, and light bulb and their huge impact on the modern world.
Grammar Spelling ABC Order Reading Comprehension Sentences High Frequency Words Blends
Lesson Outline
Libby put her spelling words in ABC order. She read and completed an activity using her new high frequency words. She practiced reading all her blends. She began reading the story, "The Best Spot." She recited the meaning of a sentence and what a noun is.
Libby finished her mini book. She loves to draw pictures and write sentences to describe them. She is using her language skills to sound out the words and spell them. Then she created her witch by designing the witch's hair, face, and clothing. For fun, we added a purse for the witch. Libby will give her witch to her mom for her birthday today! Libby did super work!

This morning, Libby began by completing adding 3 fast facts problems. Then, we reviewed the concept of subtracting all or zero. Libby used pictures to complete subtraction sentences by filling in the amounts to show taking away all or nothing, and she completed subtraction sentences by filling in the missing parts. Next, we started the lesson on taking apart numbers. We used different colored crayons to color cube trains, modeling the different ways to show taking apart.
Today, we continued to work on the president's lesson. Libby cut out the pages to make a Presidents Now and Then book. Then, she glued the pages onto construction paper that she had folded and stapled into book form. Finally, the descriptions of the presidents and their fun facts were glued into the pages while we discussed each president.
