Today, we incorporated Libby's new box of miniature animals in our lesson on sorting and counting. Each animal was placed in groups according to size, type, or characteristic before Libby counted the quantity of each group. Then, Libby continued to work on the spider web craft with the digits 6 through 10. She cut and pasted the digits in word form, in a ten frame, shown with fingers, represented as tallies, and with objects to their correlating spider web. These were hung on her door, joining the spiders 1 - 5.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read her vocabulary words. She checked on her plants. She labeled and made a diagram of a pumpkin. She began an experiment using beans to determine if plants could grow without sunlight.
I worked on reinforcing letter recognition with Libby this morning. Using letter tiles, I picked letters and tasked Libby with saying the name of the letter and saying its sound. She was able to recognize the letter 'H' but did not know the sound it makes, so we discussed different words beginning with the letter. Libby enjoyed the word 'Halloween' most of the words we chose in this exercise. We also read the book 'If you Give a Mouse a Cookie,' and Libby pointed to the title and the author's name. Libby was in excellent spirits. and followed directions well.

Lesson Comments
I was asked to sub for Dr. Val today, Monday, 10-07-24, for LA from 9:47 - 10:32. We completed the lesson plan Dr. Val left.
This morning, Libby practiced writing 1 through 10 in a sand tracing tray. After each number, she found groups of objects in her room to model the number. Then, we worked on a spider number catching web activity to help build number sense. Libby matched spider webs marked with the digits 1 through 5 to the digit in word form, in a ten frame, shown with fingers, represented as tallies, and with objects. Each number representation was cut out and glued onto the correlating spider web.
Review what a map key is from the textbook. Show several different maps and how the map key looks different in all of them. Use a grid activity to practice map key skills learned.
Libby and I did balloon breathing and cat/cow stretches. We did the following yoga poses: shoulder stand, headstand, meditation, star gazing and T-pose. She learned the sun salutation.
We learned the proper grip for holding drum sticks, and we played some simple rhythms on the snare drum practice pad. We then did some musical instrument coloring sheets, and learned about the different instruments. We listened to some examples of people playing them to hear what they sound like.
