handwriting, phonics, reading, sentence dictation, number order, addition
Lesson Outline
Given either capital or lower case letters, Richard was tasked with writing the corresponding letter. In phonics, we continue to practice identifying and reading r, s and l blends. When reading a story, Richard benefited from encouragement to blend the whole word. He did very well on sentence dictation. We continue to work on spacing between words. Given 5 random numbers, Richard worked to put the numbers in order from least to greatest. He is becoming more confident adding numbers to the sum of 12.

Lesson Comments
I was really impressed with Richard's ability to order the numbers from least to greatest. I thought he might need a 100 chart to complete the activity, but he reasoned it out without the chart.
Richard did well identifying the s-blend letters of given pictures. We continue to work on formulating letters correctly, as well as rhyme production, initial, medial and final sounds, and manipulating phonemes. Richard read a short book that involved short vowel sound words and sight words. One digit subtraction was practiced. Richard completed an assessment on both identifying halves and ordinal numbers. Solid and 2D shapes were reviewed.

Richard continues to benefit from encouragement and prompting to read words in a story, rather than guess based on initial letter and/or pictures.
ordinal numbers, spiral review, number dictation, phonics, journal writing
Lesson Outline
Manipulatives were used to focus on where the line of objects starts and which direction the manipulatives face when determining the ordinal position of a given object. Richard did very well on a spiral practice of skills learned. He worked hard on number dictation. Richard was tasked with determining which pictures started with the same s-blend as the given picture. In addition, Richard drew a picture in his journal and wrote about the picture.

Richard came in from recess upset. He told the others that he once scored 20 points in soccer and, he said, that told him that wasn't true. It took a little bit to talk about it and refocus Richard.
phonics, writing, reading, equal parts, ordinal numbers, addition and subtraction
Lesson Outline
Richard continues to practice rhyme production, initial, medial and final sound identification and adding, substituting and deleting phonemes. Given pictures of CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words, Richard spelled and wrote the words. He also created and wrote sentences using the words. He continues to practice reading basic, short stories. Richard did well identifying equal parts and adding and subtracting one-digit numbers. We are working on looking at the directions of objects before determining the ordinal number of a given object in a line.

Lesson Outline
Given a word list, Richard was able to choose the correct word to name each picture. He enjoyed listening to an 'Amelia Bedelia' book. Focus was on multi-meaning words and context clues. Ordinal numbers were introduced using manipulatives. Richard caught on quickly. We continue to practice reciting the days of the week and the months of the year, counting by tens and counting to 100.

Richard got a real kick out of the Amelia Bedelia book. Each time the character did something literal, he laughed and explained her mistake.
Richard continues to practice rhyme production, onset fluency, isolating medial sounds and deleting, substituting and adding phonemes. He did well on a cut and paste activity involving categorizing pictures by initial r-blend sound. Richard worked hard to read 'No, Not Yet'. He did well on sentence dictation. We continue to work on word spacing. Richard did well on spiral practice and identifying equal parts. We practiced one-digit addition and subtraction using flashcards.
