I began with a review of the sound deck with visual, auditory, and blending drills. The graphemes were the same as the last session with the addition of oi. The words on the blending board included coin, loin, groin, join, jean, mean, lean. I introduced oy as a new concept, explained the placement in words, and read example words. To reinforce the concept, Wyatt read a list of words on wheelofnames.com set to holiday music which was fun. We co-read a decodable book, "Fir Tree Circus." I am so pleased with Wyattt's progress. Great job!

I began with a review of the sound deck with visual and blending drills. The graphemes for the visual exercise were the same as the last session. For the blending board, I focused on the vowel team ea and vowel-consonant-e words (bean, mean, clean, clon, clone, drone, stone.) I introduced the irregular word "said" as a new concept. Wyatt read the word, and we discussed the irregular part of the word (ai). He wrote the word ten times while verbalizing the spelling. He read a chapter of a decodable book, "The Green Fern Zoo: Termites." His decoding was excellent today!

I began with a review of the sound deck with visual, auditory, and blending drills. Wyatt's ability to identify the multiple spellings of long vowels is improving. I focused again on the R-controlled vowels for the blending board and saw a slight improvement in his decoding. We played a game of tic-tac-toe with vowel-consonant-e words. We co-read the decodable reader, "The Green Fern Zoo: Groundhogs." While we waited for Rhett to arrive, we played a few "hangman" rounds, emphasizing identifying syllables and vowels.
