2.3 Introduction Welded Exceptions
Lesson Outline
We started with multiplication facts on the balance board. We reviewed 4's through 8's. 8's were rusty. We always go in order first then back to mix them up. When mixed, it takes longer for Symone to answer. Our lesson was on the welded sound exceptions, ild, ind, ost, old, and lot where the vowel says its name even though it is closed in with consonants. We did all the steps of the lesson. When we get to dictation, she sometimes needs reminders to tap the words before writing. Once she taps them and looks at the letter board, she is usually able to remember the rules. We read an article on Hurricane Katrina which she did a beautiful job reading and recalling afterwards.

Lesson Wilson 2.2 Blends and Digraphs
Lesson Outline
Today we reviewed stope 2.2 blends and digraphs using all nonsense words. Symone completed all 8 steps in the main part of the Wilson lesson. We then did controlled text passage reading. She chose an article on ice fishing. I read the article to her, she then read the same article written using leveled text and answered questions about the content. She did such a great job on the nonsense words that we will move on to welded exceptions in the next lesson.

Wilson 2.2 Blends and Digraphs
Lesson Outline
We started with the sound drill on balance board, followed by a review of blends and digraphs.Symone charted 100% on the real word list. During dictation, she did better on the real words than on the nonsense words. Tapping the sounds helps her to differentiate which vowel she needs to spell a word. She read a short story easily and was able to retell in her own words almost verbatim. We reviewed math facts. She has no difficulty going in order of the times tables, but takes a bit longer and has some errors when we test out of order. As always, she was very polite and attentive throughout the lesson and emjoys learning cursive at the end of the session. She particularly enjoys doing flash cards on the balance board.

Step 2.1 Suffix S, digraphs, s,f,l spelling rule and welded sound review
Lesson Outline
We started with the sound drill using the balance board which Symone enjoyed. We reviewed digraphs and the f,l,s rule using nonsense words. We practiced welded sounds and how to mark suffix s. She charted 14/15 words on welded sounds, then read and scooped 10 sentences. Symone did a wonderful job on dictation. She read a brief story and retold. After Wilson, we reviewed math facts using hte balance board and did a bit of cursive. She was engaged and attentive throughout.

Lesson Comments
We started with a sound drill and reviewed the letters and welded sounds, and the key words associated with each letter. Symone then read individual word cards and charted with 100% accuracy on a 2.1 word list that was heavy on short e. She read and scooped sentences for fluency, marking digraphs and welded sounds as she went. We did some spelling dictation and reviewed how to tap the sounds of a word before spelling. She did a wonderful job on her sentence dictation, then read a short story and retold in her own words. We reviewed her math facts and for fun, I showed her some cursive letters. She was very sweet and attentive for the entire hour.

Lesson Outline
Symone began the session with an oral review of the two and three fact families. She found the factors for three different numbers and then identified the greatest common factor. The instructor had her complete a written quiz on the two, three and five multiplication facts. She answered the problems very quickly and accurately. The Wilson lesson began with a review of sounds. She read all of the word cards (nonsense) fluently. The charting part of the lesson was a post test on step 1. She charted 15/15 real words and 13/15 nonsense words correctly. Next, Symone had several real and not real words dictated to her. She used the magnetic tiles to spell each of the words. For the written part of the post test Symone spelled 14/15 real words and 5/5 nonsense words correctly. She read a unit from the Multiple Skills series and answered all of the questions correctly. We continued to review vocabulary words from the Wordly Wise series. Today was another outstanding session with Symone!

The session began with a review of the two and three fact families. Symone did a fantastic job on all of the facts! She worked on the fives next and has a good grip on these facts as well. The sounds for the short vowels, digraphs, welded and selected consonants were reviewed by Symone. She fluently read the nonsense words from steps 1.3 - 1.6. Prior to the written part of the lesson, Symone read a variety of words with each of the short vowel sounds. All of her work on the written portion of the lesson was 100%, including a dictated sentence. For the final part of the lesson we started discussing the vocabulary words from the previous session. Symone had an excellent day!

Symone began the session with a review of the two and three multiplication facts. Next, she found the multiples for several even numbers and then identified the least common multiple for these numbers. She reviewed the vowel, welded, digraph and selected consonant sounds. Symone fluently read the nonsense words from step 1.3 - 1.6. The suffix s was discussed. She was asked to read a listing of words that contained both real and not real words. Symone was to identify the real word and spell it on an index card. She charted 15/15 nonsense words correctly. For the written part of the lesson she had 100% on all of her work. The final part of the lesson included reading and discussing some vocabulary words (from the Wordly Wise series) and then answering questions related to these words. She did a great job today!

Lesson Outline
The session began with a review of the basic multiplication facts for the twos. Symone solved several multiplication facts with three as a factor. She completed three LCM problems. The short vowels, digraphs, welded and selected consonant sounds were practiced next. Several words were built using the magnetic tiles. Symone fluently read them. Nonsense word cards were presented for Symone to read. She charted 13/15 closed syllable nonsense words. The instructor had her review the rules for closed syllable words. For the written part of the lesson Symone spelled 4/5 real words correctly and 3/5 nonsense words correctly. She spelled all three sight words correctly and accurately identified the dictated sounds. For fluency practice Symone read each part of it with ease. For comprehension practice, Symone read a short passage from the Multiple Skills series and answered 4/5 questions correctly.

Lesson Outline
The session began with practice of specific multiplication facts. Symone completed a few problems finding the LCM. The short vowel, digraphs, welded and selected consonant sounds were practiced. Magnetic tiles were used to build several words for Symone to read. She charted two sets of nonsense words. On one set she read 15/15 words correctly and on the other page she read 13/15 words correctly. Symone was asked to spell five real and five nonsense words. She spelled all of the words correctly. When asked to identify some letter sounds she answered them correctly except for the short vowel e. For fluency practice she read all of the words, phrases and the short story with ease. For the final part of the session Symone read two passages from the Multiple Skills series. She answered 5/5 questions correctly on one passage and 4/5 questions correctly on the other passage. (The purpose of the Multiple Skills component of the lesson is to build comprehension skills.)
